FAQ

Who can vote in the 2026 Municipal Election?
You are eligible to vote if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on Election Day, and a resident of the Township of Blandford-Blenheim, or a non-resident property owner or tenant (or the spouse of one). You may only vote once, regardless of how many properties you own.

How do I register to vote?
Eligible voters can register or update their information online through the Province of Ontario at RegisterToVoteON.ca. Voters may also update their information during the voter revision period.

What if I am not on the voters’ list?
The voters’ list is prepared by Elections Ontario. If you are not on the list, you may be able to add yourself during the voter revision period or during the voting period by visiting a designated location and completing the required form. Additional details will be provided closer to the election.

How will I vote?
Voting will be conducted using internet and telephone voting. Eligible voters will be able to vote online using any internet-connected device or by telephone using a touch-tone phone.

When can I vote?
To be determined.

How do I get my voting credentials?
Eligible voters will receive a Voter Information Letter (VIL) by mail. This letter contains your unique voting credentials, including your Personal Identification Number (PIN), and instructions on how to vote. Voter Information Letters are expected to arrive approximately one week before the voting period begins.

What if I did not receive my Voter Information Letter or PIN?
If you do not receive your Voter Information Letter, or if it is lost or damaged, you can request a replacement during the voting period. You may be required to provide identification. If a replacement PIN is issued, your original PIN will be disabled.

What if I lose or forget my PIN?
If you lose or misplace your PIN, you can contact the Voter HelpLine for assistance. A replacement PIN may be issued if your original PIN has not already been used.

Is internet and telephone voting secure?
Yes. The voting system uses secure technology designed to protect voter privacy and the integrity of the election. The system does not track how a particular PIN has voted, only that it has been used.

Can someone help me vote?
If you require assistance, you may receive help from a trusted person, except for a candidate or their scrutineer. Assistance must be provided in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

Is voting accessible?
Yes. Internet and telephone voting are designed to be accessible to all voters. For example, voters who are blind may use the telephone system, and voters who are deaf may use the internet system. Additional assistance options, including in-person support, will be available during the voting period.

Can I vote if I am away from home?
Yes. You can vote from anywhere using an internet-connected device. Telephone voting is also available from anywhere in North America using the toll-free number provided in your Voter Information Letter.

What if I do not have internet access or a touch-tone phone?
You do not have to vote from home. You may use any computer or touch-tone phone, or visit a designated Voter Assistance Centre where equipment and assistance will be available.

What happens if I am interrupted while voting?
If your voting session is interrupted, you can log back in later using your PIN and complete your ballot. You may also switch between internet and telephone voting if needed.

What if I see the wrong candidates on my ballot?
If the list of candidates shown is incorrect, do not complete your ballot. Exit the system and contact the Voter HelpLine. Your information can be reviewed and corrected so that the proper ballot is displayed.

How do I know if my vote was successfully submitted?
If you log back into the voting system after voting, you will receive a message confirming whether your vote has been completed. You may also contact the Voter HelpLine for assistance.

Can I change my vote after I submit it?
No. Once your vote has been submitted, it is final and cannot be changed.

How does telephone voting work?
When voting by telephone, the system will read out the list of candidates and prompt you to select your choice using your keypad. You will have the opportunity to review and confirm your selections before submitting your vote, and you may clear your selections and start again if needed.

Can anyone use my PIN to see how I voted?
No. Your vote is completely secret. The system does not record how you voted, only that your PIN was used.

What should I do if someone asks for my PIN?
Do not share your PIN with anyone. Treat it like a bank PIN. Township staff or election officials will never ask for your PIN.

What if I think someone has used my PIN to vote?
Contact the Township immediately. You may be required to complete a declaration confirming that you did not vote. In some cases, a replacement PIN may be issued.

Why did I receive more than one PIN?
This may occur if your name appears more than once on the voters’ list (for example, if you own multiple properties). You are only permitted to vote once. Please contact the Township so that any additional PINs can be cancelled.

When will election results be available?
Results will be posted after voting has closed on Election Day and once they have been declared by the Clerk.

Who do I contact if I have questions?
For questions about voting or the election process, contact the Township of Blandford-Blenheim Clerk’s Department at 519-463-5347 or elections@blandfordblenheim.ca.
