2026 Municipal Election Accessibility Plan

The Township of Blandford-Blenheim’s 2026 Municipal Election Accessibility Plan outlines the measures being implemented to help ensure the municipal election is accessible, inclusive, and barrier-free for all electors and candidates. Developed in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the plan focuses on providing equal access to voting information, voting opportunities, and election services for persons with disabilities.

The 2026 Municipal Election will be conducted using telephone and internet voting, allowing eligible voters to cast their ballot independently from home or any accessible location. The voting system has been designed to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards and supports a range of assistive technologies and devices. Accessible Voter Assistance Centres will also be available throughout the voting period to provide in-person support, accessible voting equipment, barrier-free access, and assistance from trained election officials if needed.

The plan also outlines accessibility measures related to communication, alternate formats, accessible election materials, support persons, service animals, accessible parking, signage, and staff training. Following the election, the Clerk will provide a report to Council identifying barriers encountered and measures taken to improve accessibility throughout the election process.
